I’m often amazed to see the how grand and bizarre the fashion industry has become. For some reason it’s difficult for me to fathom people and their utter love for clothing.
Don’t get me wrong! I like a decent pair of jeans as much as the next guy, but you won’t catch me forking out hundreds of dollars for a pair. Forget that. Not that my taste has any effect on the fashion world whatsoever. Oodles of young people are flocking to fashion design and merchandising colleges to better learn the business. Hey, I can’t say that I blame them. There is plenty of money to be made there. I’m pretty sure Tom Ford is starving these days.
It cannot be denied, however, that fashion design school is a magnet not only for people who have made dressing up a lifelong vocation, but also for students who are dazzled by the beautiful clothes. Countless of high school fashion graduates line up in colleges offering fashion design and merchandising to get a shot at entering this charmed world. It also doesn’t hurt that world-renowned designers live in the most exclusive addresses, hobnob with celebrities, not to mention earn tons and tons of money doing the thing they love the most.
Making it in this industry, much less into this revered designers’ list, is tough. In most cases, how a student perceives the job he or she wants is totally different from reality. To remedy this situation, you can tune in to the Style network to get a glimpse of fashion designers at work. The reality TV series “The Hills” also introduces aspirants to the hidden quirks of the fashion industry. On this show, follow the lead, who is an intern at “Teen Vogue” magazine, as she goes through the not-so-glamorous side of fashion.
[spin]As what these shows portray, remaining in this industry is tough. You need to work hard and compete with a lot of people, but if you are willing to sweat it out then there’s a good chance of you making it. A good education is also a very big plus.|It’s definitely not all glitz and glam in the beginning, but I’m sure any successful fashion designer can tell you that. You have to be willing to work hard and vie with the many. The best place to start is a highly recommended fashion design school.[/spin}
