The following method to extract multimedia files from the cache works great on many sites and can be used as a fast and efficient way of downloading files that are of interest. I suggest Firefox for this operation but other browsers should work as well.

Visit the website in question and start the playback of the multimedia file that you want to download. Let it play until it finishes and type “about:cache?device=disk” into the address bar of Firefox. What we are looking for is a relatively large file that probably has the standard extension. If you are looking for a music file try searching that page for “mp3″ or other extensions that could work. (Look for sizes of 1 megabyte and up for music files for instance)

I was describing a method to download music from the website Radioblogclub.com just a few days ago. The method required some manual work, you had to copy part of the code that was used to embed the song in your own website. The copied part was of course the mp3 file which could be easily downloaded afterwards.

A better more efficient method is to use the script that is available at radioblogdownloader.com . Just copy and paste all the code into the form on the site and it will automatically parse it and let you download the music. The build in search did not work at the time I was trying the service. Simply visit radioblogclub.com, search for an artist or song, click on the blue Play icon in the results list and copy the code on the right side. Paste that code into the form at the downloader site and download the song.

Last years RPM Challenge saw a participation of 165 bands with more than 1600 new tunes which can all be listened to using the build in flash player at the official website. The February 2007 challenge will definitely see more participants resulting in many more songs that can be listened to online. The main page already has a short selection of new songs that have been submitted to the challenge.

The challenge itself will run for the remaining days of February with an update of the flash player soon after the challenge officially ends.

There are so many great websites out there that offer music from talented artists for free. I really find it hard to believe that so many users still decide to buy mainstream music Cd’s that are copy protected or download drm infested music that can’t be played in many devices and that could pose problems if the company that sold you the music goes bankrupt.

The Epitonic website looks strange at first glance and might make inexperienced users nervous. There is no clear center that catches the users attention in the first seconds and many could leave the site because of this before they find out that they are missing a great opportunity.

I was fascinated by the guide to electronic music when I first discovered it many years ago. It offered a overview of many electronic genres and their connection to each other with samples of the music. This site existed before web 2.0 and all those sites like musicovery that are so popular today.
